For some, surrogacy is not easy to understand base on their own or organized beliefs. And that’s okay. For CSO it’s important than we educate as many people on what surrogacy is and how it can help others. We are not afraid to discuss the hardships or difficulties of surrogacy either, because that’s so important to understand as well.
One thing we want to touch on are the reasons for surrogacy. The reasons couples resort to surrogacy are the reasons why we do what we do. Their want for a family is so strong, and surrogacy may be their only option. See a list below for some on the reasons couples rely on surrogacy:
Hysterectomy or Illness
If a woman has had a hysterectomy and an illness it prevents her from being able to carry a pregnancy.
Required Medications
Some women are required to take medication that could adversely affect a growing fetus.
Age
If a woman is at an age where she would not be able to safely carry a pregnancy.
Life-Threatening Situation
A woman may be experiencing a life threatening situation, or told by a physician that a pregnancy could be life-threatening.
Born Without a Uterus
There are situations where women are born without a uterus, or she has a specific condition where her uterine lining will not sustain a pregnancy.
Fibroids in the Uterus
Although fibroids can be removed, they can also grow back.
Same Sex Couples
Same sex couples have the need for a surrogate in order to create their family.
Unexplained Infertility
An unexplained fertility occurs after a woman has tried 3 or 4 IVF cycles with good quality embryos but does not get pregnant.
