Ways to Stay Cool During a Summer Pregnancy!

The summer is a great time to enjoy the sunshine and outdoors! However, during pregnancy, it can be tough to stay cool in the hot weather. If you’re currently starting or are already on a Surrogacy Journey this season, here are some tips to help you beat the heat!

Keep Hydrated

Our bodies naturally try to keep us cool by sweating, so it’s very important to get enough water daily. Whenever you’re feeling thirsty or are sweating a lot, that’s when you know it’s time to hydrate yourself. If you need to switch it up, avoid caffeine and sugary drinks, and instead, enhance your water with natural flavors like fresh lemon, mint, or berries.

Limit Your Sun Exposure

It’s good to get sunshine as it provides us with Vitamin D, but long periods of time in the sun can be harmful. Make sure to take breaks and find shade when you start to feel signs of overheating such as dizziness, lightheadedness or nausea.  Wearing a wide-brimmed hat or using a beach umbrella can also help as well.

Go for a Swim or Take a Cold Shower

Bathing in some cool water can help your body regulate your temperature. If you can’t find a nice pool or body of water to swim in, taking a cold shower can be just as refreshing.

Wear Appropriate Clothing for the Heat

You might want to wear as little as possible, but the direct sunlight on your skin can actually be counterproductive. Try to wear light, flowy fabrics that keep you cool and breezy while still protecting your skin. Light cotton and linen are both good options.

Travel Light

If you need to carry some things with you when you go out, avoid using clunky or heavy bags. It will get heavier overtime and become cumbersome. A few good light options are small crossbody’s, mini shoulder bags and hand purses. If you have room, carrying a small misting fan can help a ton as well!

Have a Cold Snack

Avoid warmer foods, such as soup and chili, and stick to cooler snacks. Fruits and vegetables rich in water are great options, such as watermelon, cucumbers, and grapes. Healthy popsicles made with little to no sugar can also be a nice cooling treat!

Turn Your Bedroom Into a Cool Space

If you’re struggling to stay cool inside, try running an AC or multiple fans inside your bedroom. Overheating can make it hard to sleep at night, so turning it into a cool oasis can really help you find space to cool down when you need it.
